Nikon cameras and lenses have been quite popular amongst many photographers. Whether you’re into portraits, photojournalism, landscape, or birding, Nikon has exciting offerings for everyone. However, it appears that the company may have discontinued a popular prime lens, which was great for all-around use. Which one is it? Let’s have a look. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

According to Asobinet, <\/a>the company has discontinued the Nikon 24mm f1.8 G<\/a>, a fast prime designed for street, documentary, and landscape photography. The lens is said to be discontinued onMAP Camera’s website<\/a>, but not yet on Nikon Japan’s older lenses page. This also means Nikon may gradually update their webpage soon.<\/p>\n\n\n

The lens seems to be in stock on Nikon’s own webpage in the United States and is available for under $800. <\/a>So, if you are someone who wants to purchase the lens, you can. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Launched in 2016, the 24mm f1.8, the Nikon lens features 12 elements in 9 groups, including two ED glass elements and two aspherical lens elements, as well as lens elements with Nano Crystal Coat. It has a close focusing distance of 0.23m, 7 aperture blades, and 0.20x magnification. Ergonomically, the lens is lightweight, small, but it lacks weather sealing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In our review, <\/a>we appreciated the device for its fast and accurate focusing, both in good and poor lighting conditions. In fact, with a proper full frame camera, you will barely miss the subject. You get everything you paid for the money. The image quality is amazing, and one may not need to shoot at f1.4. The bokeh is really creamy and smooth, and you also get really sharp images. As we added, “However, it is perhaps one of the sharpest wide-angle lenses I\u2019ve ever tested. For the landscape, architecture, and real estate photographers that will consider going for this lens, know that there is a lot going for this lens.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is not the first time Nikon has discontinued an F-mount lens. This proves that the company is actually keen on expanding its mirrorless lens offerings. In fact, Nikon has already launched a 24mm f1.8 version for Z cameras. <\/a>For its price, it is a great lens with good color reproduction. However, it has a bit of distortion. We do hope that Nikon improves on its lineup, with the 35mm f1.2 Z S being a great choice. <\/a>It remains to be seen what new lenses will be launched in the future, but for now, the recently introduced Nikkor Z 24-105mm f\/4-7.1 raises<\/a> a lot of questions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
