Skye & Alicia {Married}

Anyone who lives on the west coast of BC, or has visited, can’t deny how incredibly beautiful and unique our landscape is.  We are blessed with some of the most spectacular scenery on the planet.  Yes, I love where I live.  That is why whenever I am asked to shoot a wedding on one of our incredible Gulf Islands my heart leaps with excitement.  It is a chance for me to combine my love for where I live with what I love doing.  Perfection.

Alicia and Skye had a vision for their wedding at Rebecca Spit Park on Quadra Island.  It was to be relaxed and organized in a way that didn’t take away from the incredible backdrop that was naturally provided.  Instead of chairs there was natural driftwood benches.  Instead of over-the-top decor, there were beautiful wild flower bouquets lining the make shift aisle in old watering cans.  It was stunning.

Dark rain clouds loomed overhead threatening a downpour, but instead it sprinkled.  As umbrellas opened and Alicia walked down the aisle with a soft guitar playing in the background, time seemed to stand still.  It was so peaceful.  The sound of the ocean lapping against the shore and seagulls squawking overhead was the perfect soundtrack for their ceremony.  Alicia and Skye chose to stand in the ocean as they said their vows.  It was beautifully sentimental as Skye had proposed bare foot in the ocean at the spit and it is where Alica had said “yes.”

Now before I move on to posting the rest of their images I just have to say that the other day I posted Colene and Jamie’s wedding images and I mentioned that they had met on ICQ.  Alicia commented on my blog saying that is how her and Skye met too!  So it is crazy to think that two of my couples are possibly married because of this first major online messaging community.  Way to go ICQ!

I have to give a HUGE thank you to the amazing Dirt Co. Organic Flower Farm for providing the spectacular florals as well as allowing us to shoot on their amazing property.  THANK YOU !!

Sidenote – I LOVE this tourism video about BC !!

Travel Snaps Tuesday – One Shot

Sorry this weeks travel post is going to be a bit weak.  I am a busy bee trying to keep up with editing my 2010 weddings and I am afraid the travel editing is taking a back seat right now.  I couldn’t get away with at least posting one image, so here is a single shot of another favourite door in Syros.

Favourite Things Friday

Alicia and Skye are the reason for this Friday post.  They are solely responsible for my new favourite chocolates, Fran’s Grey and Smoked Salt Caramels.  Is your mouth watering yet ?!

When Alicia and I met up yesterday she presented me with a gorgeous card, the most beautiful bouquet of flowers from the local flower stand on her street (I wish I had one on my street!) and an assortment of goodies from their mini-moon in Seattle.  Besides the incredible wild honey and Pappardelle’s organic pasta, there was this delicately wrapped box of chocolates.  I have never had Fran’s chocolates before, and now I am huge fan.  They are DELISH !!!

Skye and Alicia you seriously spoiled me!  THANK YOU so much for everything.  And yes …. I did manage to save a few for Darren 😉

Travel Snaps Tuesday – Syros

It’s finally raining.  And I am loving it.  I think my body has been craving the rain.  I’m not sure why, maybe I am getting lazy about watering my garden.  But I really think I just needed it.  There is something so refreshing about the rain.  I love how green and healthy the grass looks when it is wet.  I also love the smell.  It reminds me of camping in a tent and being cozy warm inside.  Today I wanted to be cozy.  To sit by my computer with a cup of tea, my blanket and get some good editing done.  It is hard to sit at the computer all day when the sun is beaming through the window and begging me to get outside.  So perhaps the rain is a way of telling me to buckle down and get to work?

Today’s post is about a beautiful island in Greece that we had no plans on visiting.  Darren and I had no intention of stopping in Syros, but the universe had other plans.  Anyone who has travelled in Greece knows how absolutely chaotic and bizarre the ferry schedule can be.  Island hopping can get complicated.  The ferry schedules are a mess and can flip your plans upside down in a moments time.  That’s what happened to us.  But so often these unexpected circumstances in life turn into a wonderful experience and I am happy to say that this accidental island visit was just meant to be.  Syros is gorgeous.  It is a beautiful combination of old and new.  I could have wandered down their marble and cobblestone streets for hours taking photos.  And yes, there are several places in Greece we visited where the streets were made out of marble slabs!  Amazing.

Some snaps of stunning Syros.

Colene & Jamie {Married} Part II

Like many of my clients, Colene and Jamie met online.  However, they didn’t meet through a new age dating site, they met back in 2000 over one of the first super popular chat sites called ICQ.  Remember those days?!  Colene saw Jamie’s name on one of her friends lists and liked his name and quickly added him to her list.  They began chatting and didn’t stop for three years when they finally met in 2003.  I believe in fate and I don’t think that is was a random connection that attracted Colene to Jamie’s name.  The love these two share was meant to happen.  They are a perfect match.  They compliment each other in a way that is completely balanced.

I asked Jamie and Colene to tell me their three favourite things about each other.  Colene said “his caring nature, loving affection and his brilliance and drive.”  Jamie said “Colene is easy going and up for anything.  She is loving and loyal yet can be fun and crazy when the time is right.”  They both described their style as a couple as easy going, social, energetic, loving and family oriented.  I think their wedding was a perfect reflection of their personal style.

I know it was their goal that everyone just have a blast at their wedding and I can say without a doubt that they achieved this goal.  They have an amazing family and hilarious friends that love these two like crazy.  It is easy to tell why.  Jamie and Colene are such a fabulous couple and they elevate all of those around them.

Here are just a few more photos to tell a bit more of the story of their day.  If you missed the first post from their wedding, you can view it here.

One of my favourite shots of the day taken by my second shooter Sean Norman.  Colene is laughing because we were driving behind her screaming like idiots for her not to get in the car yet, because we loved this shot and had to get it.
