Josh contacted me back in January with a vision for his special proposal to Jenny. Jenny is an amazing client I have had since the beginning. She is always a dream to photograph and is just the sweetest. So when Josh emailed me saying that he was planning a surprise proposal for Jenny at the top of Mount Finlayson surrounded by their closest friends (including some of her girlfriends which he was flying in from across Canada!) I knew this was going to be one of the most exciting and memorable moments I have ever had the opportunity to capture.
I was super impressed by Josh’s organization and determination to come up with something unique and extra special for Jenny. He had initially planned to propose at the top of Mount Finlayson. He felt that the challenge of climbing the mountain together was symbolic and a great metaphor for love, relationships, life and all they have experienced so far. Unfortunately on the day of the proposal the weather had other plans for us. Climbing the mountain in the rain was a bit unsafe so we went with plan “b”. This back up plan consisted of Josh and Jenny walking along the trail at Goldstream Park that leads to the nature sanctuary. A group of Josh and Jenny’s closest friends would be waiting for them there.
As I saw Josh and Jenny walk up the path I stood out front and tried to distract her by making small talk saying that Josh was surprising her with a fun photo shoot. I kept blabbing away until she got closer to the group of friends who had their backs to us at this point. Once she was close enough I yelled for them to turn around. Once she saw them her reaction was priceless. The tears came. Huge hugs were shared. More tears. Josh had the foresight to bring tissue, and it was definitely needed.
After a few moments had passed Josh casually pulled out a beautiful black box from his pocket which held her ring. He held it out towards her, but Jenny did not notice. However, as Josh got down on one knee, Jenny turned and she dropped. There were more tears … all around. Big smiles. And then Josh asked simply “Will you marry me?” She said “YES!” and they embraced in a sweet hug.
That moment was so touching. I think we all felt very fortunate to witness and share in such a truly special moment.
Josh – thank you for including me in this amazing moment in your lives. I truly felt so honoured to be a part of it.
Here are some first photos of the proposal and there will be more to come of the mini session we had at Goldstream.
