New LOGO !!!

I am SO excited !!!  I have been waiting for this day for so long !!! I have had dreams and ideas and thoughts about creating some branding for my business for quite some time.  Yet I needed to get really clear about the look and feel that sums up my style before I could even start the process.

When I finally had some set ideas in mind I knew exactly who to contact.  My fabulously talented friend Jo from Bristol.  Jo and I began the ‘branding’ process a few months ago, bouncing ideas back and forth, emails and emails of ideas.  You see Jo and her man Dan are both incredibly talented graphic artists in the UK and I am proud to call them both my dear friends.  Darren and I met Jo and Dan while we were traveling in South East Asia a few years ago.  We ‘hit it off’ right away and spent a fair bit of time trekking around with them.  Darren and I knew  that without a doubt we would be friends with these two for years and years to come.  That kind of connection doesn’t come along very often, so when it does you don’t let it go!

Jo and Dan have come and visited us in Victoria, and it is our plan to visit them on our honeymoon this Fall.  We stay in touch via email and the infamous Facebook.  So when I was looking to give my business image a bit of a ‘facelift’ I knew exactly who to ask.

Within the first few emails I knew that Jo was going to just come up with something amazing!  And when she sent me the first set of design ideas I could have picked any one of them and been SO happy.  No lie.  They were all freaking awesome!  So trying to narrow it down from there was hard work, let me tell you.  It was a really good experience for me though, as it really taught me a lot about what I value in my business and what type of vibe I want to give to my clients that best describes me and what I do.

To all my brides out there I have to tell you that Jo also designs fabulously funky wedding invites as well !!! I am spoiled freaking rotten by her and she has designed mine for my wedding this summer.  When they are finished I will post a pic to give you an idea.  Jo is making some business changes herself and she is designing a new website for her business and when she does I will post it here for you to check out.

So without further ramblings, here it is !!!! Let me know what you think 🙂

great job kim. it looks great!

{Amanda + David} continued ….

Maybe it’s because it was my first wedding of the year and I am really excited, or maybe it is just because this couple is so fabulous, but either way I just had to post some more photos from their wedding.

In the short period of time we had to shoot, I am really happy with the variety of images we got.  Amanda and David hope you love these ones too.  Have a blast in Mexico and I’ll have all your images ready for you by the time you get back.  Two requests if I might….please have a lime margarita for me, preferably with a fancy little umbrella, and at least a couple tacos with refried beans and Mexican rice.  I just LOVE Mexican food !!

Thanks to everyone for visiting my blog and feel free to leave a comment, I love hearing from you 🙂

Wow! Kim, seems as though you definitely had a great connection with this couple. The emotion flows right through the entire series once again! Third to last is for sure my favourite, but I love the one of them on the crosswalk as well. These are terrific!

"Love is of all passions the strongest …

… for it attacks simultaneously the head, the heart and the senses.” (Voltaire)

I had the honour of attending the wedding of Amanda and David on Saturday evening.  My first wedding of 2009, and what a way to start off the weddings for the year!  The elegant ceremony and reception took place at the historic Union Club in downtown Victoria.  Barb Hastings from Sweet Beginnings did a fantastic job!  The room looked just breathtaking.  The ivory and green flowers and candlelight complimented the rich decor of the room perfectly.  It was my first time working with Barb and it was such a pleasure!

I have known Amanda for a few years now and I was so grateful that she asked me to photograph their wedding.  David had proposed on New Years eve and Amanda’s desire to escape our winter and go somewhere HOT for a fabulous honeymoon, kicked the wedding plans into high gear.  Now for those of us who know Amanda, we all know she could have planned this wedding in under an hour with one hand tied behind her back.   So when I was given her time line for the day, I knew without a doubt that this would be one wedding where everything would occur right on time and with Barb’s help sure enough, it did.

Amanda was an absolutely gorgeous bride.  The dress she wore was the perfect dress for her.  It was the dress she was meant to wear.  The champagne colour with the detailed beading at the top looked just amazing.  A  few more sentences and you can see for yourself !

Amanda and David, I wish you all the best in your new life together.  The love you share for one another is obvious and so touching.  Thank you for including me in part of your day.

Healing

I had the pleasure of meeting Genevieve, Dee & adorable Addy yesterday for a unique family photo session.  These three ladies suffered a major loss this past year, losing their father (and grandfather to Addy) too soon.  To help ease the pain for their mother, they decided to have some family photos done as a surprise gift for her.  Dee lives out of Province, so with her visiting Victoria, this was the perfect time to capture these memories.

Gen had the idea of using the beautiful angel monument in the Ross Bay Cemetery as a symbol of their father looking over them.

I was honoured to be apart of these photos and their significance, and I truly hope they help in the healing process.

Here are a few of my faves from the day.

Hello Miss Kalyn,

I have seen some of your fabulous work and I thought I would stop by and say hello. Particularly I thought these photos were very touching on the heart strings. I think you have a soft vintage feel to your photos and a great artistic eye! Are you a full timer as well? I recently became a full time shooter and it is awesome! Maybe one day we can shoot a project together! Take Care and I will be checking in again! Time to get some traffic to our blogs! Thanks again for your kind comments. Lisa

{E-Session} with Lia & Bryan

Awhile ago a friend of mine, Lisa, contacted me about a fabulous gift idea.  She wanted to get her friends, Lia & Bryan, a gift certificate for an {E-Session} to celebrate their engagement – sidenote: Lisa, Lia and I all went to high school together 🙂  I thought that was a super thoughtful and timeless gift that they would just love – yes I may be a little biased, but come on, who wouldn’t love that right ?!

I met Lia and Bryan awhile back to discuss what kind of vision they had for their photos.  They were initially thinking of something downtown – maybe some urban shots and some down by our beautiful ocean.  They had gone for dinner at il Terrazzo (my FAVE restaurant in town!) the evening they got engaged, so we thought the little adorable garden nook in behind the restaurant would be perfect as well.  That was until Bryan decided to take Lia to Fort Rodd Hill for a stroll one day and after seeing it they knew that’s where they wanted their pictures taken!

Funny enough their session was my second one at Fort Rodd Hill in two weeks.  Fort Rodd Hill is where it’s at!

Now the moment Lia asked if it was ok if Bryan brought his guitar to play to her during the session, I was like “heck ya, this session is going to ROCK!”  And it did.  Not only was the weather unbelievably awesome, but Lia and Bryan are uber photogenic.  Like I always say, I have freakishly good looking clients!

We took our time exploring the grounds.  We stumbled across some really funky locations that I had never seen before, so I was stoked.  Lia and Bryan witnessed me getting all giddy about the yellowish green moss we found, and the wicked brick wall.  I have a mild brick obsession, it’s a true fact.

Lia and Bryan it was a true pleasure working with the two of you.  I wish you all the best as you plan your wedding and your new life together.  And hey … if you need a photographer in Mexico you guys know who to call 😉

PS – Thanks again Lisa for the fabulous gift idea!
